We hit the ground running in 2019, with January proving to be a busy month of moves and shortlisting for roles that were briefed in December. There is no doubt that each year around the holiday break demand for roles to be filled continues strongly. More and more our (agency) experience is that organisations will leave us with the job brief before Xmas and look forward to meeting the shortlisted candidates early in the New Year. This year has been no exception.
Temp has also steadily grown, especially to fill in while the right candidate is sought for the role on a permanent basis. This is especially useful for those, hard to fill aka ‘Unicorn’ roles as it does one of two things; releases the pressure valve in covering the fundamentals of the roles while it remains vacant, and it allows time to identify and secure the exact fit needed rather than settling. Sure there is an additional cost involved but for any of us who have rushed in and hired quickly because the need was urgent will attest, the risk of making the wrong hiring decision in those pressured circumstances are high. The price can be way higher than the cost of a Temp.
We are working on some great roles (Temp and Perm), and we are seeing a good deal of Temp to Perm conversions. With an election looming large recruitment can be affected with a shift from Permanent to Temporary or Contract roles. While we have not seen the Perm market cool off at all, we have seen increased demand for Temp and Contract. Let’s see what February brings.
Congratulations goes out to our own Sally Heslop whose eldest daughter Katie brought a beautiful baby girl into the world in January, together with the lovely Meagan Downie Knowles with the safe and much heralded arrival of a bouncing baby boy.

January has been a booming month for Temp Professionals, as organisations get back up and running and realise, they urgently need Temps to fill in for employees who are still away or to do the odd jobs around the office that haven’t been done over the holiday season. Over this January period I have been so happy with the way our Temp Professionals have stepped up and taken on any job I throw at them. Our Temp Professionals are consistent, reliable and driven, making the Rusher Rogers Temp Desk one of the best!
