Rusher Rogers’ weekly wrap-up report on what’s happening in the world of Rusher Rogers, our clients, our candidates and the recruitment market.
Despite the latest national GDP figures coming out with Australia growth rate stagnating at 1.8%, the employment trend we continue to experience is that good candidates are in demand and there are plenty of options for them. These in-demand candidates do not stay ‘available’ for long. Temps are quickly getting snapped up left, right and centre. So for those who insist on shortlisting and interviewing for a temp role then be prepared to miss out on the best temp because they do not have to wait around. Time is money when you are temping, so taking time out to interview for temp roles is not time well spent when you are paid by the hour.
We are also increasingly seeing a quick turn over in the permanent candidate market as well. Good candidates are being very selective (rightly so), and the smart savvy organisations are the ones that recognise their talent quickly. Where others that take way too long to initially meet, then dilly-dally between first and second interview and procrastinate over a decision, will miss the boat. A talented candidate has choices in this market.
The recruitment process will give them great insight into the organisation they are interviewing for. If it’s slow to respond then it’s a direct reflection on the organisation and will affect their perception of the brand. Explanations of ‘ it’s our process’, will fall on deaf ears and while we all respect a robust recruitment process, it can’t be at the expense of missing out on talent for your organisation…the expression ‘tail wagging the dog’ springs to mind. They will vote with their feet every time and there is only so much a recruiter can do. Best advice, trust your recruiter and act effectively, efficiently and fast in this market because talent is in demand. This is a great Segway to an article that was released earlier this week by Smart Company listing Australia’s top 50 companies to work for.
It also ties in very nicely to Sam’s blog post this week on Is Your Organisation The Stuff of Dreams, exploring just what it takes to be an employer of choice but seen from the candidates perspective and something that we should all try and aspire to.
